Dry methionine hydroxy analog (MHA)

Dry methionine hydroxy analog (MHA) - Cattle and small ruminants

General information
Dry methionine hydroxy analog possesses combined properties of DL-methionine, organic calcium source, and an acidulant which reduces the buffering capacity of feed. The use of methionine hydroxy analog in the diets of dairy cows stimulates the activity of rumen microflora, increases feed intake, milk yield, and fat and protein content in milk. The product is highly digestible and can increase feed intake and improve its conversion, which results in the faster growth of younger generations and increased productivity of adult animals; this preparation reduces feed cost per productive unit and increases production efficiency.

Appearance
White crystalline powder with specific odor.

Biological effects
МНА is a highly effective combined additive which is a methionine analogue and a source of organic calcium at the same time.
DL-methionine is an essential sulfur-containing amino acid that is part of the proteins involved in metabolic processes, is a donor of methyl groups in the synthesis of creatine, ethanolamine, norepinephrine, and protects the liver from obesity. Methionine deficiency causes a delay in growth and development of young animals, and reduces productivity in adults. In animals, methionine hydroxy analog is involved in biochemical processes and has a similar effect, as a result being an almost complete DL-methionine substitute.
Further, MHA as a calcium salt of organic acid is a source of readily assimilable organic calcium and an acidulant which reduces the buffering capacity of feed.
Supplementing methionine-deficient dairy cattle feed with methionine hydroxy analog increased animal feed intake (including the post-calving period), improved the condition of rumen microflora and stimulated microbial protein synthesis, increased milk production considerably, and improved the content of fat and protein in milk.

Doses and method of application
This amino acid is added to mixed feed through  premixes. The amount of DL-methionine added in mixed feed depends on the species and age of farm animals, including poultry.

Usage
With a lack of methionine, the diet of all animal species is supplemented with MHA added to premixes, concentrates and mixed feed.
It is also recommended for ruminant feed with methionine deficiency, especially in the early stages of lactation and in high producing dairy cows. MHA retains its properties with all known methods for feed mixing and has good stability at high temperatures.

Safety measures
Unloading, storage and loading of feed DL-methionine should be performed in compliance with the general safety measures provided for handling chemicals. In cases of potential contact with the skin or eyes, protective equipment (rubber or plastic gloves, goggles) should be used. Hands and face should be washed before working breaks and after work. In case of contact with eyes, rinse eyes with plenty of water.

Storage conditions
Store in a dry place protected from light at the temperature below 30 °С. Shelf life is usually about 5 years.
