Complementary to the sufficient energy level, providing the necessary amount of amino acids is particularly important for high productivity of pigs. The four most important essential amino acids – lysine, methionine + cystine, threonine, and tryptophan – are taken into account when calculating diets for pigs. There are 10 essential amino acids in total.
Excluding at least one of them from the diet of pigs even with the sufficient protein content, limits the use of other amino acids of the diet and has the same negative effects on the animal as the acute shortage of protein in general.
